Little Hands

Little Hands

(September 2009)

For two weeks in July, my family and I traveled north and were able to vacation back home, see relatives, and enjoy the cooler Great Lakes’ temperatures. One particularly sweet relative was our precious 1 year old niece, Cali Mae. She was having a delightful time one afternoon, sitting in the center of a mound of colorful toys she had collected and placed around her. But upon seeing her Mama pass by, she suddenly decided Mama was much more appealing than a pile of old toys. Cali stood and attempted to follow, but was caught up in her knee-deep surroundings. After whining a bit and searching unsuccessfully for a way out, she pouted her lips and looked at me in defeat. Auntie Cyndy came to her rescue (of course), swooped her up with kisses and hugs, and helped her reach her Mama’s arms – her winning prize.

As Christians, aren’t we the same way? We have created such busyness and clutter around us from our daily lives and routines that we cannot seem to move. We see the vision – the woman of God He wants us to be, but because of our choices and habits, we are unable to “get there.” We have read His Word, claimed His promises, and have studied the perfect Proverbs woman, but we still find ourselves missing the mark. How can we ever be released from the strongholds that hold us back and prevent us from seeking His face and grace every day? No one ever told us walking in His shadow would be an up-hill daily climb. But praise the Lord – He is there to rescue us from our miry clay and help us continue to run the race – to the ultimate prize, His arms! Commit this month to just that – getting back into His arms when life has thrown a few curves, whether it be a serious blow or just everyday duties wearing you down. Be refreshed as you enter His Word and  discover His love song written especially for you!

“For the LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will quiet you; He will rejoice over you with singing!” Zephaniah 3:17

A Prayer for Restoration and Renewal…

Dear Lord,
Please forgive me for being attracted to and distracted by so many other things. Sometimes even things I thought were good took time away from You. Help me to never become more in love with the work of the Lord… than with the Lord of the work. I ask to be restored to pure devotion to You. Help me to have wisdom to say “No” to things that will just fill my calendar but empty me spiritually. I need Your wisdom for every decision I make. It is wonderful to know that Christ dwells in my heart by faith, and I pray that He is rooting me and grounding me in love so I will be able to comprehend the breadth, the length, the depth, and the height of His love for me. (Eph 3:18) Dear God, help me to learn to live fully in Your presence every day and become more mindful of You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Repent then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, and that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” Acts 3:19
